Description
A view of the stone bridge over the River Severn at Bewdley, Worcestershire, England. This impressionist watercolour painting was done with the help of a borrowed photograph in 1989. A painting from my first batch of watercolours, it shows the historic bridge, designed by Thomas Telford and built in 1798. Bewdley has a long history of flooding and the previous bridge had been destroyed by floods in 1795. This beautiful Georgian town is a popular destination for tourists and the Severn Valley railway, a heritage steam railway, has a station here. The western bank of the River Severn can be seen here which was once the quayside and is now a popular riverside spot with pubs, cafes and restaurants.
