Description
This is the black and white version of my watercolour painting, Light My Fire. I did this painting from a photograph taken by my son, George, when he visited the home of The Great Western Society at Didcot. He also was kind enough to write the following description to go with my painting: The Great Western Society's three GWR "Prairie" tank locomotives, No's 4144, 5572 and 6106 inside the shed at Didcot Railway Centre. 6106 and 4144 were built for the heavy and fast suburban services on the GWR network, especially working into Paddington. 5572 is a smaller version for freight and passenger work on lighter branch lines. 6106 was one of the first locomotives bought into the Great Western Society's collection and is the only surviving example of the 61xx design. 4144 and 5572 were rescued from the famous Barry Scrap yard to represent their respective classes at Didcot. Thanks to Barry there are several examples of the latter designs in preservation around the country.
