Description
This painting shows The North Norfolk Railway's steam locomotive J15 060 number 564 as it pulls away from Sheringham station. This popular loco was built in 1912 and was lucky enough to escape being scrapped as diesel engines took over in the 1960's, when it was preserved by the Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway Society. The M&GN society is the supporting charity of the North Norfolk Railway. I was lucky enough to visit the NNR on many occasions, having had several holidays in Sheringham and I recently came across an old photo of me standing in front of this engine. Unfortunately, this magnificent steam engine was taken out of service in May 2013 when it's boiler ticket expired. The good news is that it is undergoing a major overhaul at a cost of 100,000 of which 70,000 has so far been raised. The Loco is being restored as a Great Eastern Railway Y14 and reassembly work is under way.
