When the almost six months of Swedish winter are over and the last traces of snow and ice are finally gone, all eyes are looking for the first signs of spring. The first flower to appear is Coltsfoot, real name Tussilago Farfara or as it is known here in Sweden, just Tussilago. It is a most unusual flower in that it produces flowers first which then die back before any leaves grow. It seems as though it is two seperate plants, one producing no leaves and the other, no flowers. The flowers are almost like small dandelions and they always cause great excitement amongst the children (and some adults), when the first ones are found. This particular example was the very first one that my children came running in with. I hit upon the idea of placing it in a rainbow of light caused by a glass crystal, hanging in the kitchen window. I am an English Artist living in Borlange, Sweden since 2005. I have been painting on and off since the early eighties, in oils to begin with before moving on to watercolours. I also have an interest in photography which I have often used as part of my preliminary work for my paintings. In recent months, I have had a little extra time on my hands, which has fuelled my artistic fire. I find that I am experimenting much more with my photography to create more abstract images at the same time as learning new methods of processing photographs.
