Description
One of my favourite times of the year is the autumn and particularly the time when the chestnuts begin to fall from the trees. Ever since I was very young, my family have had a special place where we head for each year, to collect these lovely nuts. That place is in England and now I live in Sweden. Although I'm now able to walk to the forest, there are no chestnut trees here. Not being one to accept defeat, I decided to try growing some trees from seed and managed to get three to germinate. The seedlings seem to die back in the winter though and regrow to about the same size each year. It doesn't look like I'll ever get any nuts, but I can see those wonderful chestnut leaves each autumn. This abstract has been digitally altered, but the overall image and colours are not changed. It should be viewed at full resolution to appreciate the effects I have used. What attracted me to this image was the bright yellow leaves, contrasted with the jagged shadows of other leaves, creating some lovely patterns and a reminder of all those Autumns spent in England.
