Artist's Description
When I first visited Sweden, I was amazed at the way Lupins, one of my favourite flowers, seemed to be growing all over the place. There are always huge natural displays of Lupins every June and they are almost considered weeds yet I didn't find them easy to grow in England. They never seeded themselves either. The climate in Sweden must be better suited to Lupins. I noticed other flowers growing wild which I don't even remember seeing before. The best example is the spreading bellflower (campanula patula). This lovely hardy perennial, with it's delicate bell-shaped flowers which open up into a star shape, comes in various shades of blue and purple. It is the flower which represents the county of Dalarna, Sweden, where I now live. Their Swedish name translates to meadow bells, which I think is an even better name than bellflower. I am an English Artist living in Borlange, Sweden since 2005. I have been painting on and off since the early eighties, in oils to begin with before moving on to watercolours. I also have an interest in photography which I have often used as part of my preliminary work for my paintings. In recent months, I have had a little extra time on my hands, which has fuelled my artistic fire. I find that I am experimenting much more with my photography to create more abstract images at the same time as learning new methods of processing photographs.
