Description
When I first visited Sweden, I was amazed at the way Lupins, one of my favourite flowers, seemed to be growing all over the place. There are always huge natural displays of Lupins every June and they are almost considered weeds yet I didn't find them easy to grow in England. They never seeded themselves either. The climate in Sweden must be better suited to Lupins. I noticed other flowers growing wild which I don't even remember seeing before. The best example is the spreading bellflower (campanula patula). This lovely hardy perennial, with it's delicate bell-shaped flowers which open up into a star shape, comes in various shades of blue and purple. It is the flower which represents the county of Dalarna, Sweden, where I now live. Their Swedish name translates to meadow bells, which I think is an even better name than bellflower. Although these beautiful flowers grow everywhere here, they are actually considered rare in England. As I was taking my photograph, a little fly decided to make a perfect landing on the flower. I can't begin to imagine what a beautiful view that fly must have had as it touched down!
