Artist's Description
I had so many possible names for this piece: The Face of Art, My Blood Boils, Angry Art but in the end settled on The State of Art. It's one of my second daughter's favourites. The great thing about this abstract painting and many others, is that it must be interpreted by the viewer. The longer you look, the more you see. It is almost a subconscious work which allows perhaps for qualities and characteristics that are not seen in my other work. Whatever you want to see in this painting, I will say that the running liquid represents a tear. For me that tear could be for all the years that I did not paint a single thing. It could also be for the way I was pushed away from art as a career by people around me and especially careers advisors and teachers. I never felt that my art teacher ever saw anything in my art. It could also be for the way some people pay extortionate amounts of money for so called art that makes a complete mockery of the art world.

About Martin Howard
I am an English Artist living in Borlange, Sweden since 2005. I have been painting on and off since the early eighties, in oils to begin with before moving on to watercolours. I find that I am experimenting much more with my photography to create more abstract images at the same time as learning new methods of processing photographs. This in turn, is influencing my ideas for paintings. Anybody visiting my website, will find a real mixture of styles and mediums and I believe, something for everybody. The reason that I paint or take...

I see this as the "calm side of frustration"... that point where you finally calm down and come to terms (whether you like it or not) with whatever had you frustrated. I love it!!
