Artist's Description
One of the first wild flowers to appear in the spring is the wood anemone. They are native to Europe although I had never seen or heard of them before I moved to Sweden. Apparently, they come in several colours, but the only two colours I have seen are white and blue. The white version is most common and these ones are part of a large patch growing in my garden. The blue wood anemone seems to hold itself more to woodland as it's name suggests, but the white anemone can been seen just about everywhere. Wood anemones are a perennial which spreads itself by underground rhizomes instead of seeds which is why it grows in clumps and after many years can carpet large areas. During the summer, the leaves die back and the plant becomes dormant until next spring. That's why I welcome them growing in my lawn.

About Martin Howard
I am an English Artist living in Borlange, Sweden since 2005. I have been painting on and off since the early eighties, in oils to begin with before moving on to watercolours. In recent months, I have had a little extra time on my hands, which has fuelled my artistic fire. I find that I am experimenting much more with my photography to create more abstract images at the same time as learning new methods of processing photographs. This in turn, is influencing my ideas for paintings. Anybody visiting my website, will find a real mixture of styles and mediums and I believe, something for everybody. The reason that I paint or take...
