Artist's Description
Marianne Faithfull is one of my idols from the sixties. She didn't have a huge number of hits and I don't like all her work, but there is something so endearing and captivating about her. It was the time when she first became a star that I like her best. She had an innocence about her and was every man's dream. On her early hits like "As Tears Go by" and "Come and Stay With Me" she had a sweet, almost folk singer voice. In this portrait, I've tried to capture that sweet innocence from the happiest times. I used only grey paint to create an 'old' feeling. Marianne Faithfull was also famous for becoming the girlfriend of Mick Jagger and perhaps understandably, the innocence didn't last. By the end of the sixties, her singing career had come to a premature end due to amongst other things, drug addiction. She made a successful comeback in the seventies, but by then Marianne and her sweet voice had changed.

About Martin Howard

I find that I am experimenting much more with my photography to create more abstract images at the same time as learning new methods of processing photographs. This in turn, is influencing my ideas for paintings. Anybody visiting my website, will find a real mixture of styles and mediums and I believe, something for everybody. The reason that I paint or take...
