I painted this scene from a photograph that a woman I worked with, Shirley, lent me. She probably told me where it was, but I forgot. By the time the paint was dry, I had absolutely no idea where it was. I don't remember ever showing the finished painting to Shirley otherwise she most certainly would have reminded me. Then one year while on holiday in Somerset, we drove to the Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway in neighbouring Devon. As we drove through Lynmouth, which was on our route, I suddenly recognised the view in my painting. What an amazing coincidence. That was the only time I've ever been to Lynmouth. It was a satisfying feeling to actually recognise this lovely scene from one of my own paintings! Now that I have uploaded this painting to the Internet, there exists Google Earth and I once again have been able to confirm the location of this scene.

I am an English Artist living in Borlange, Sweden since 2005. I have been painting on and off since the early eighties, in oils to begin with before moving on to watercolours. I also have an interest in photography which I have often used as part of my preliminary work for my paintings. In recent months, I have had a little extra time on my hands, which has fuelled my artistic fire.
