Artist's Description
This lilac image is one of a series of 10 photographs that I took for a contest. I named them Lilac 1 to 10 to start with and then tried to find something more interesting to call them.Bug's Life was an obvious title for this one. Not only were there two small bugs on the lilac, but the colour reminded me of the ants in the Disney film, A Bug's Life. I've always liked lilac. When I was a child, there was a big lilac bush at the bottom of the next door garden. The garden belonged to my favourite aunt and uncle. Lilac will always remind me of them, but particularly my aunt. She left this world too soon just as these beautiful blooms always seem to die after just a few days. In Sweden, lilac is a very popular plant and it seems like every other garden has at least one bush. My garden is no exception.

About Martin Howard
I am an English Artist living in Borlange, Sweden since 2005. I have been painting on and off since the early eighties, in oils to begin with before moving on to watercolours. I also have an interest in photography which I have often used as part of my preliminary work for my paintings. In recent months, I have had a little extra time on my hands, which has fuelled my artistic fire. I find that I am experimenting much more with my photography to create more abstract images at the same time as learning new methods of processing photographs. This in turn, is influencing my ideas for paintings. Anybody visiting my website, will find a real mixture of styles and mediums and I believe, something for everybody. The reason that I paint or take...
