Ashridge woods is part of the Ashridge Estate, Berkhamsted, England, owned and maintained by The National Trust. The entire estate covers an area of 2000 hectares or 5000 acres. A large part of the estate is covered by beautiful woodland and comprises a network of footpaths. Some of these (nature trails) are marked by numbered posts, which are great fun for children to find and follow. This scene was taken from one of these nature trails. This painting is one of my absolute favourites because it captured perfectly what I wanted to say.Anyone who has ever been for a morning walk through Ashridge woods on a crisp October morning, with the sun shining through the trees with their autumn colours, will know what I mean. On such days, these woods draw hundreds of visitors. Even with the high numbers of visitors, Ashridge woods offer a peaceful and beautiful area where one can come to enjoy nature, observe a host of wildlife and maybe even find a few chestnuts.

I am an English Artist living in Borlange, Sweden since 2005. I have been painting on and off since the early eighties, in oils to begin with before moving on to watercolours. I also have an interest in photography which I have often used as part of my preliminary work for my paintings. In recent months, I have had a little extra time on my hands, which has fuelled my artistic fire. I find that I am experimenting much more with my photography to create more abstract images at the same time as learning new methods of processing photographs.
