Artist's Description
I decided to go out into my garden and try to get a few photographs of some of the latest wild flowers that had appeared. I had the camera in my hand and was wandering around looking for a decent example of a certain flower. I suddenly caught sight of this magnifcent dragonfly as it landed on the last remnant of a dried lupin flower. The stem was quite rigid though and the dragonfly held on in the strong breeze. As I switched on the camera and began to focus on the dragonfly, I was quite sure it would fly away before I could capture it. I was surprised that it stayed put and I managed to get eight photos. It was very difficult to focus in the breeze, but this photo was perfect. This was the first time in my life that I've been this close to a living dragonfly and wonderful luck that I had a camera in my hand at the time. These beautiful creatures can reach speeds up to 50 km/h with just three beats of their wings which might explain why this one just seemed to vanish into thin air.

I am an English Artist living in Borlange, Sweden since 2005. I have been painting on and off since the early eighties, in oils to begin with before moving on to watercolours. I also have an interest in photography which I have often used as part of my preliminary work for my paintings. In recent months, I have had a little extra time on my hands, which has fuelled my artistic fire. I find that I am experimenting much more with my photography to create more abstract images at the same time as learning new methods of processing photographs.
