Description
During the midsummer celebrations in Sweden and particularly in the county of Dalarna, it is traditional to pick wild flowers for decoration. It is said that if a woman picks seven different flowers and places them under her pillow on Midsummer Eve, she will dream of her future husband. There seems to be a huge variety of wild flowers that appear in the summer, the most noticeable are the Lupins . I noticed other flowers growing wild which I don't even remember seeing before when I lived in England. The best example is the spreading bellflower (campanula patula). This lovely hardy perennial, with it's delicate bell-shaped flowers which open up into a star shape, comes in various shades of blue and purple. It is the flower which represents the county of Dalarna. Their Swedish name translates to meadow bells, which I think is an even better name than bellflower. Although these beautiful flowers grow everywhere here, they are actually considered rare in England.
