A Rhinoceros Beetle found in my garden in Sweden. What an impressive beast this beetle is, looking more like prehistoric dinosaur than an insect. I've had a lot of creatures in my garden in Sweden that I never would have had in England. I've seen Moose, Deer and Rabbits. Who knows what else might visit or live there, but I never expected to find one of these amazing beetles. In over fifty years, I've never crossed paths with a rhinoceros beetle. I think the only one I ever saw, was a dead one on display in a museum. These type of beetles are one of the strongest creatures on the planet, second only to the less impressively named Dung Beetle. The Rhinoceros Beetle can lift weights of up to 850 times it's own body weight, which in human terms, is like lifting 65 tons. I am an English Artist living in Borlange, Sweden since 2005. I have been painting on and off since the early eighties, in oils to begin with before moving on to watercolours. I also have an interest in photography which I have often used as part of my preliminary work for my paintings. In recent months, I have had a little extra time on my hands, which has fuelled my artistic fire.
