British Railways standard class 4 2-6-4T steam locomotive, number 80072, seen here at North Weald station on the Epping and Ongar Railway. This impressionist watercolour painting was created from a photograph taken by my son George at the Epping and Ongar's 2016 steam gala in June. I used a little artistic license by changing the colour of the coaches to recreate a scene more in keeping with the last years of steam. Tank engine 80072 was visiting from the Llangollen Railway in Wales where it is normally seen with maroon coaches. Like many preserved steam locomotives, this tank engine built in 1953, was sent to Barry scrapyard in 1966 as the days of steam were coming to a close. By the time it was rescued for preservation in 1988, it was in a terrible state with many parts missing, including the cab and chimney. The restoration of 80072 took over twenty years to complete, but this wonderful engine can now be seen steaming through the countryside in the 21st century. Although the Epping...
I am an English Artist living in Borlange, Sweden since 2005. I have been painting on and off since the early eighties, in oils to begin with before moving on to watercolours. I also have an interest in photography which I have often used as part of my preliminary work for my paintings. In recent months, I have had a little extra time on my hands, which has fuelled my artistic fire. I find that I am experimenting much more with my photography to create more abstract images at the same time as learning new methods of processing photographs.
