Description
A yellow Calendula or Old Fashioned Marigold flower opening it's petals in the early morning sunshine. These beautiful summer favourites are a must in any cottage garden. There are many variants of these wonderful annuals which are grown from seed each year. The orange varieties are perhaps more common than the yellow. I like to have a mix of the two colours so each plant is a surprise as the first bud opens. These flowers love the sunshine and prefer to stay closed in cloudy and wet weather. Once the flower is over, an unusual seed head is revealed, packed with twisted and curled seeds which can be easily collected for sowing the following year.
