Artist's Description

This is a view along a street known as The Mint, in the town of Rye, East Sussex, England. The building in the centre is The Standard Inn, a traditional English public house built in the fifteenth century. The street is full of Olde Worlde buildings and is one of many picturesque streets and alleyways that make up this historic town. Rye is one of a group of towns in Kent and Sussex, known as The Cinque Ports, which in the days before England had a navy, supplied ships and men to the king in exchange for special privileges. As well as defence, the town was important for fishing and trade as well as smuggling. Who knows what business might have been conducted in this old pub. This impressionist watercolour painting was made with the help of one of my father's photographs from the 70's and the two people in the picture could well be me and my mother.

I find that I am experimenting much more with my photography to create more abstract images at the same time as learning new methods of processing photographs. This in turn, is influencing my ideas for paintings. Anybody visiting my website, will find a real mixture of styles and mediums and I believe, something for everybody. The reason that I paint or take...
