Description
I went through a period in the late eighties and early nineties where I began to paint in watercolours. I was so eager to improve my skills that I painted everyday for several weeks. Photographs, books, calendars, wherever I found an image that looked good, I painted it. I soon exhausted all my ideas for paintings. In the end, I resorted to asking people I worked with, if they maybe had something that was worth painting. One of them, a woman called Shirley, came in with a few nice photos. This painting came from one of them which I liked and shows her dog, a Westie, on a beach, appearing to be stranded by the incoming tide. It has a look on it's face which seems to say "don't just stand there taking photographs, come and get me!" I'm sure he wasn't really stranded. That was many years ago and by now, Shirley's dog is no more. I don't know what happened to Shirley and I don't remember if she ever saw this. I wonder what she'd think of it.
