Description
These shiny redcurrants, growing in my garden, remind me of red balloons. Unlike blackcurrants, the redcurrant has a translucent skin which lets the sun shine through them, giving a balloon-like appearance. Redcurrants (Ribes Rubrum) is a deciduous shrub native to many parts of western Europe. It is particularly popular where I live in Sweden and it's hard to find a garden that doesn't have at least one bush. Here, they are used mostly for making refreshing summer drinks, but are also used in jams, jellies, puddings and as food decorations. They look fantastic with ice cream or on top of a cream cake.
