Description
This beautiful blossom comes from a Swedish apple tree called Cox Pomona. It is one of four apple trees in my garden. It was not as easy as I thought choosing the trees. The first thing I looked for was a tasty apple sort, but then I found that some apples were better for eating from the tree, some made good apple sauce, some were good to cook with, some stored well and some didn't. Another thing to think about was the time of year that they should be harvested. This was a real headache and in the end I bought three trees, including this one. Two of the trees fruited well from the start, even though they were young trees, but not this one. I found out that there was something else I should have considered. Apple trees pollinate each other, but only certain trees. There is a table that shows which tree pollinates which. I found I was dependant on other peoples trees even though I had three, but by buying one more carefully chosen tree, all my trees are pollinated by one of the other four.
