Description
Bulrushes have always fascinated me since my childhood. I don't know what it is about them that first drew me to them, but it could be the strange sausage-like structures that appear to speared on the stems or it could be the dark brown, velvet texture of the flowers. Whatever, they are always associated with waterside scenes. Once the flower catkins start to spread their seeds, they become downy and unkempt in appearance and lose their appeal to me. Back in December (2013), I was lucky to come across this lone example which still had it's ordered shape. The bulrush was silhouetted against the early morning sun as it crept up over Domnarvet's Bridge in Borlange, Sweden. There was a lovely pale orange glow on the river, which I enhanced to make the picture even more dramatic. All that was left was to find a suitable title.
