Description
Golden yellow chanterelle mushrooms, partially concealed under fallen leaves, moss and twigs, in the forest. To me, this is one of the most beautiful sights I can see when wandering in the woods, but not something I can ever take for granted. It's rare to find these beauties on the main paths through the local woodland. If you want to see chanterelle, one needs to walk through the forest along the many small tracks that criss cross the forest floor or even leave the tracks altogether. It's not such a pleasant walk, but its the best method to find these hidden treasures. Some years they are easy to find, but sometimes they are more rare or other people have been there first. They are not always visible at all and perhaps offer just a glimpse of rich yellow amongst yellow autumn leaves, which might result in a larger find or just one or two. Because they take a trained eye to find them, I find it very rewarding to pick chanterelle mushrooms and they are not just pretty, but very tasty too!
