Description
This class 5101 2-6-2T large prairie tank locomotive acquired the nickname 'Favourite Tank' from my son George on one of his first visits to the West Somerset Railway, when he was just a toddler. That was the early nineties and George has been lucky enough to go back there almost every year. He took the photo from which this was painted, this summer (2013). 4160 is pictured coming over the level crossing, just before entering into the station at Blue Anchor on the West Somerset Railway. The train is on the 22 mile (36 km) trip from Minehead to Bishops Lydeard. When 4160 was first returned to steam, it had black livery, but has since been repainted in British Railways green. This is more authentic as 4160 was built in 1948, when BR had taken over the rail network. The first large prairie tanks were built for the Great Western Railway in 1909.
