Description
Daphne Mezereum, common names February Daphne and Mezeron, is a deciduous shrub found in most parts of Europe. It flowers on bare wood early in the spring before it gets it's leaves. This somewhat exotic-looking shrub, looks quite attractive with it's deep pink flowers, at a time when there really isn't much else growing in the forest. However, this plant should be treated with care as it is highly toxic and the red berries that develop later in the year are also poisonous although birds are able to eat them. This example is seen growing in Sweden.
