I really should give myself a big kick for thinking that I had seen the local river in it's full autumn glory and painted anything there was to paint. I had been there several times back in 2005 when I was painting a lot of Swedish landscapes. I painted two scenes of the river in autumn and I really didn't have any other ideas. Well eight years later, I have finally realised that I had missed a lot of opportunities. I took nearly three hundred photos of the area around the river in just one visit alone. They won't all make good paintings, but I certainly have a lot to choose from. In this painting, the trees were maybe a couple of weeks from reaching their peak of autumn colours. My side of the river was in the shade and the almost silhouetted foliage made a nice contrast with the vivid autumn colours.

I am an English Artist living in Borlange, Sweden since 2005. I have been painting on and off since the early eighties, in oils to begin with before moving on to watercolours. I also have an interest in photography which I have often used as part of my preliminary work for my paintings.
