I noticed this dramatic winter sky and took several photographs of it, but I didn't think the scene would make a good painting. The composition was all wrong and even though the blanket of snow removes a lot of detail, it was a cluttered and complicated. This is one of those moments when it's fortunate to be an artist though because I changed the direction of the road, fence and hedge and took out a few ugly and unnecessary items, to make a much more pleasing view. It's actually the view from my garden and includes a part of the garden, but I don't think the neighbours would recognise their own houses. However, apart from the gate, I can see this from my kitchen window.

I am an English Artist living in Borlange, Sweden since 2005. I have been painting on and off since the early eighties, in oils to begin with before moving on to watercolours. I also have an interest in photography which I have often used as part of my preliminary work for my paintings.
