Description
The snow came late to my part of Sweden in 2013. Sometimes the winter can start as early as the middle of October, but this particular year, the first real snow didn't come until the first week in December. Even then, it didn't stay for Christmas. There was no more snow until the new year. This painting is of the pathway along the riverbank in December. The plants had been bent over by the snow, but not flattened yet and the pathway had been well trodden despite the snow. There was very little colour left to paint, just a little blue and yellow in the pale winter sky, reflecting a little on the snow. The dead vegetation could still be seen here and there, giving some light brown colours. At least the snow makes everything so much brighter. Cold, dry and bright feels much better than cold, dark and damp.
