Description
One of the benefits of having a large garden, is that you can afford to leave areas of it to grow wild. Not only does that mean less weeding and grass cutting, but there is also the added pleasure of finding some fantastic wild flowers popping up. I always thought that I had to carefully pick my way through cow fields to find these particular flowers and I didn't even know if they grew where I live in Sweden. It didn't take me long to spot these beautiful cowslips with their bright yellow petals, and a splash of orange. Even better still, I don't mind getting down on my hands and knees to get a better look. There are no cows in my garden, only the occasional moose cow. The cowslip (primula veris) is part of the Primulaceae family and is a perennial. It flowers in the spring and can have as many as 30 flowers on a single stem. Not bad for something that is free!
