Description
Sometimes, the winter months in Sweden can seem quite devoid of colour. The grass is covered by snow, water freezes to ice on the surface of rivers and lakes, the leaves have gone and there are no flowers. Everything that's left is so dark that the world can appear to be black and white. Luckily, when the sun shines, it provides some welcome colour to the sky which reflects off the snow and ice. Even the shadows take on some colour. This photograph was taken early in the afternoon as the sun was getting very low in the sky. The sun was not strong enough to melt the ice that clung to all the plants and trees, but it had some lovely warm, pink and orange colours, contrasted by purple shadows. It looked great as it shone through the ice, making quite an unusual image.
