Description
Everybody loves Sunflowers. They are incredibly popular, particularly as a subject for artists. They are also very easy to grow and make a very colourful display which is why so many gardens have them. The sunflower is a symbol of the summer and even it's name pays homage to the sun. The name comes from wonderful appearance of it's large flowerheads which are often likened to the image of the sun. Sunflowers (Helianthus annuus) are in important food source with the seeds being used to produce sunflower oil. The seeds are loved by birds and sold as bird seed particularly during the winter months. After these sunflowers, from 2011, had finished flowering, they were left for the seeds to ripen and to feed and attract birds during the winter.
