Description
The classic toadstool which everybody thinks of is this one, the Amanita Muscaria, with it's distinctive red cap with white spots. It has many widely used names such as fly amanita, fly agaric and fly killer. As the last name suggests, this type of mushroom can be used as a fly killer by mixing it in a powdered form with milk. Amanita muscaria mushrooms are also known for their hallucinogenic properties. Widely recognised as a poison mushroom, in some parts of the world people do eat it after parboiling. This particular example had obviously proved a tasty treat for some creature as it had two large holes in it's cap. Viewed from above, it didn't look so spectacular, but from underneath, the holes let through a lot of light, making a much more interesting photograph.
