Description
A beautiful french marigold flower, also known as tagetes patula, growing in my garden. These flowers were one of the first bedding plants I came across as a young boy. My dad used to buy them from a local flower nursery and would create pretty displays in his flower beds. Because these flowers were so common in my childhood, I think I have ignored them for a long while, but I now grow them myself from seed. Easy and very rewarding to grow, they are such a colourful flower with rich red and orange petals. They have so much colour in fact, that any attempts to increase the colour saturation of photographs, has little or no effect. It's perhaps no wonder that they are so attractive to butterflies, but they can also be used to deter pests, if planted in the vegetable patch. What more could a gardener want?
