Description
This is a piece of birch bark that I found in the forest in early April. It was fairly dull and grey in the forest so I set my camera on vivid colour function, hoping to find something with at least some colour in it. This bark seemed to have a lot of colour. I don't know why it wasn't attached to a tree, but it was unmistakably from a birch. I photographed it, thinking that it had some interesting textures and patterns. There was also some wonderful rusty brown colours in the bark. It wasn't until I looked at my photo later, that I spotted what looked to me like an abstract river of molten lava. Once I focussed on that, all the other colours in the photograph seemed to fit into the idea of a erupting volcano.
